The Maliki View on When Jihad Is Fard Ayn And Fard Kifayah

“Jihad in the path of Allaah, to raise the Word of Allaah, is fard kifayah once a year, so that if some people perform it, the obligation falls fro the rest. It becomes fard ayn, like salah and fasting, if the legitimate Muslim Imam declares it, or if there is an attack by the enemy on an area of people.”
